An attraction in Switzerland without public transport. Panoramic trains, ships, buses and mountain railways are perfectly coordinated and enable guests to get to know the neighboring country from a completely different side. These are the most important news at the start of the winter season.
Anyone who wants to travel as sustainably as possible in Switzerland will sooner or later come across the Swiss Travel Pass. In 2024, this will cost an average of 5.9 percent more than in previous years, but remains extremely attractive thanks to numerous advantages. It is available for 3, 4, 6, 8 or 15 days and entitles you to unlimited travel on public transport, including the panoramic trains. In order to keep up with the high demand in winter, the Glacier Express and Bernina Express panoramic trains are increasing their capacity.
Sustainability is more than just a trend
Many mobility companies have already joined Switzerland Tourism’s “Swisstainable” sustainability initiative. They are committed to sustainable tourism in a variety of ways and play a pioneering role here. The Rhaetian Railway obtains 100 percent of its electricity from hydropower and the Lake Lucerne shipping company, among other things, equips its paddle steamers with modern generators. The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn in Zermatt also relies on energy-saving vehicles with its modern Orion multiple units.
New attractions
But there is also no shortage of new experiences this season: With the “NostalChic” class, the Gornergratbahn is offering a new concept that combines luxury and culinary delights. The Jungfrau Railways, in turn, offer guests breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps with the new “First View” viewing platform. And in spring 2024, the “Eiger Walk of Fame”, an exciting themed trail about climbing the north face of the Eiger, will open. The Rigi Bahnen have also put together attractive offers. Individual travelers and groups can, for example, book a historic mountain trip or enjoy a carriage ride at the summit followed by fondue. A self-propelled cable car will be running up to the Brienzer Rothorn from mid-December and a number of festive activities are planned to mark the 100th anniversary of the Centovallina in Ticino.
